The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement as part of the transportation team which enabled me to gain experienced in a range of engineering activities. These included undertaking principal inspections and drafting the reports as well as participating in scrim surveys.
All colleagues were extremely supportive and made me feel like a permanent member of staff.
I was given constructive/informative support and guidance whenever I required it by all members of staff for whom I was working.
I was always kept busy with various tasks of differing sizes and disciplines.
I was given varying degrees of responsibility depending on the task that I was undertaking. This ranged from limited on some of the larger projects to a significant amount on some of the PI reports for example.
I have developed a range of skills during my placement with the main ones being communication and gaining an appreciation of a wide rage of engineering codes and standards. This will ultimately help me with the group work in my final year as well as furthering my understanding of the highway related modules.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was extremely positive with a balanced work/fun ratio.
I was always kept busy with a range of engineering related tasks that I would be notified about well in advance. My placement was well structured and consequently I gained experience in a wide range of engineering disciplines.
The company gave me the opportunity to undertake a wide range of engineering tasks which has enabled me to develop a variety of industry specific skills. This included providing a variety of lunchtime and in work presentations to broaden my knowledge in a range of specific engineering areas. This experience is ultimately invaluable for my future career,

Having seen and spoken to a variety of different people within the company the prospect of future employment is extremely appealing. Everyone that I have spoken to is enthusiastic about their work and only has positive things to say with regards to the support and benefits that the company offers for its employees.
The Culture
The office was an extremely social one with both fellow students and colleagues arranging to regularly participate is activities outside of work.
The cost of living and socialising in Cardiff was very reasonable. This was expected as I am currently at university within the city,
The nightlife was extremely good with a wide range of places to go and things to do every night of the week,
There was a wide range of activities outside of work that I got involved with whilst on placement. These included the summer BBQ event and various other social gatherings.
