The Role
This is one of the best placements for Engineering Undergraduates in the U.K. I was involved in real projects and was running many of them simultaneously. Furthermore, the various activities and visits organised throughout our placement made me feel valued and were just a great experience.
Even as an undergrad, you will get a lot of work in JLR, and you will interact multiple times on a daily basis with colleagues not only from your team but cross-functionally as well. People will depend on you and the work you do is contributing to the business. My team respected me as a regular permanent employee.
I had weekly hour-long meetings with my manager, and some other shorter ones when needed. My manager was instrumental in helping me properly prioritise and guide my projects by proper objectives setting. The biggest issue you might face is that your manager sometimes might be really busy and not have the time for you, but this depends on the individual case.
I worked on a 40 hour contract, and was properly busy throughout. while I didn't have to work overtime or anything like that, I was engaged in all my projects and other development activities during the whole day.
I was given proper work that would prove useful to JLR. That being said, my projects weren't anything of critical importance. I believe that my workload was reasonable in terms of responsibility given that I lack experience but have plenty of motivation.
My placement was critical in me learning a lot about how a big technology company operates, I gained skills in personal communication, efficient delivery, project management and customer focused innovation. My placement was mainly in the Information Engineering/Communications area, so I did learn a lot in those areas in terms of technical knowledge, but I mostly consider this placement as a valuable experience on what it is like to work for a leading company, rather than an aid to my studies.
The Company
Friendly and relaxed. Flexible working meant you can sit at whatever desk you find free.
While there is a clear structure, the sheer number of undergraduates and the idiosyncrasies of each manager and department, mean that every undergraduate has a completely different experience. Some of the IT services took a long time to become active for us undergraduates.
I would say more than enough. I had a manager responsible for my duties and personal development. All undergrads where given some mandatory training to complete. I was presented with many training opportunities and was invited to countless learning events specifically for undergraduates. Although sometimes I would have liked that more focus was placed in teaching me some of the systems in place, I have to be understanding of the challenge that training and undergraduate while working poses for managers.

Working from home
I definitely consider this my number one choice for future employment if I wish to work in the engineering industry. It depends on my career paths.
The Culture
Yes, the undergraduate community was close and there where many events organised through Facebook and at work as well. Many undergraduates lived in Liberty Point Accommodation Coventry, suggested by JLR, which meant there was a good social scene there.
It was pretty decent, I lived in Coventry and it was quite cheap. my accommodation was £85 a week I think, for an en-suite. I wouldn't recommend Coventry as a city though, it is a bit dull.
Hardly ever went out, so I can't comment.
We were offered a £200 pound voucher to get involved in any activity outside of work we wished to engage in. I joined the gym. Many activities were available from clay pigeon shooting to rafting to literally anything you wanted. I just joined the gym. There where also some independent graduate projects that undergrads where encouraged to participate in.
