The Role
It has been a great experience. It confirmed my willingness to work in banking.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues, because the work I was doing for them, they would have had to do it by themselves if we were not here. I really felt that I was helping them out and that I was useful to the team.
The internship was very well organized on that matter, as we had one manager, who was giving guidance in terms of work to do, and we also had a buddy, who would give us guidance in every matter (work, behavior, feedback, every small thing that can bother you).
As an intern in investment banking, I was expecting late nights everyday, but it wasn't like that. There are some days where you can leave at 7pm because there is nothing to do, and other where you have to stay after midnight because of a live deal. If it happened I would never mind, because the recognition I would get for it was worth it.
At the beginning I was given only "easy" tasks, because they wanted to see what I was able to do or not. When they understood my strengths, they started to give me more interesting work, up until being the lead analyst on a major project.
I studied management with a minor in finance. It was extremely helpful to know more than the basics in finance, because I could then focus more on learning about the job and the team.
The Company
The atmosphere was great. Every junior on the team was there to help you if you had any issue. Also, the campus recruitment team and the team itself organized different events so that we could know better the bank and its employees, but also network with each other.
We had two days of training and then one placement in one desk. I thought that only two days of training weren't enough. Some of us would have needed more time. I think it is great to have only one placement during the internship, so that we really learn in depth what the team is doing and what the work is really like. This would not have been possible in a 4 weeks rotation.
If you are performing well, Barclays will do everything to keep you. The recruitment team is very flexible and will do everything it can to help you find your way.

Barclays will always hire interns as it is the best way into the bank.
The Culture
Most of the interns were very supportive and helped one another.
London is very expensive, but it offers great opportunities to have fun.
There are some nice bars in Canary Wharf to get a drink after work.
The bank and the team organized great activities to get to know us better.
