The Role
The placement was the best job I've ever worked.
The social life and the work given by my colleagues made me feel very valued given the nature of placement.
The managers were always available and approachable for support.
The office was always tight with deadlines but I was given plenty of time to complete the tasks to a standard I was happy with. The colleagues were also very generous with the time allowed to complete said tasks.
Given my lack of experience, I started off with very simple tasks. As I've gotten used to the work, the weight of the tasks I was given ramped up quickly (for a student).
The knowledge I received helped me with subjects in geotechnics as well as some aspects of running group assignments.
The Company
The staff were always very lively and outgoing. The atmosphere was particularly enjoyable around Christmas time with the office Christmas parties.
The company invested a lot of trust into me in the tasks given and in social activities.
Company Parties/Events
I would be delighted to be taken on as a graduate engineer at Arup.
The Culture
Cardiff is quite cheap for living in a capital city.
The nightlife was decent in the winter. However, the 2am lockouts put a damper on it. Apparently, it's really alive in the summer.
