    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at Jaguar Land Rover, over 6 months of working here I have had the opportunity to work as an automotive clay modeller and learn from professionals advanced skills i could only dream being taught back at university. It is a shame i have to leave soon.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have felt very valued by my colleagues the whole way through my 6 months at Jaguar Land Rover. From day one it has always been a very welcoming environment and all staff have treated me and fellow students with great respects and as one of their own, teaching us a vast array of new skills.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • We have been given a huge amount of support and guidance the whole way through our placement. We've had the chance to present weekly to our managers from all departments to show our weekly work and have feedback given. We also use these meetings to discuss deliverables for the next review.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Our placement started off slowly with an introduction to the project and the working environment, however when we got into our individual roles, we became very busy, very quickly. Due to the nature of design and its fluid process deadlines can be changed quickly meaning some weeks can be a real rush to finish tasks.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We were given a huge amount of responsibility during our time here. We have been responsible for our own project and making sure as a team we hit deadlines set to us in our weekly meetings by our managers. We were also set individual tasks without support to test our capabilities.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My skills have improved more than i could of imagined, doing 4 months of intensive clay modelling along side professionals has taught me a huge amount of new skills. We had training with many new tools and even shown how to make specialist equipment to assist us with our final year projects. This skills with be hugely valuable with my final year of university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There has been a very good atmosphere in the office, even though most of my placement was spent away from the office in a more workshop based environment. However any time in the office at our computer has been great, There is always support for any issues you may have at any given time.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Due to the placement being in its 4th year in its current format the placement has been very well organised. There is a very strict time plan to keep to and with all the support you are given throughout to keep to this means all students get a great experience in their chose field of work.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invest a great deal in the placement and the students taking part in it. There are great prospects for employment at the end of the internship, and right form the beginning Jaguar Land Rover closely assess your working practices to consider you for future employment after completing your degree.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Jaguar Land Rover is going through a very exciting time currently, and having huge expansion due to great success of the most recent generation of cars. This means that future employment prospects are very promising indeed. Especially within the field of clay modelling and design which my placement has been in the field of.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a fairly good social scene within the company with team events such as football and even a jogging club, However with our project being so full on and intense as a group we didn't get many chances to meet up and socialise with each other, this is a shame as the people i have worked with are all very nice.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Due to still living at home and commuting into work every day my costs of living have been zero, however my fuel costs have equated to a about 25% of my wages each month. Speaking to other students living in the area they have said some areas are quite expensive though such as Leamington spa

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Due to still living at home and commuting into work every day my sample of the night life have been zero, This is one of the disadvantages to commuting instead of living close by. However Speaking to other students living in the area they have said the night life is very good with lots of places to go out and socialise.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Due to still living at home and commuting into work every day my sample of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work have been very little. By the time i have finished my working day it is often too late to consider going out afterwards as i still have to travel 50 miles to get home.
