The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at FactSet. The 10-week internship was very well structured: two weeks of training and eight weeks in a team. The constructive feedback I received developed my skills a lot and I was impressed by the friendliness of my colleagues. In addition, there were many work-organised social events (quiz, pizza party etc.) that made the internship even better.
My team was amazing. They developed my skills and tried to give me a variety of work so that it would be more interesting for me. When unsure about something, I was never afraid to ask them a question (even if it turned out to be a stupid one!). I felt part of the team and I felt that my work was appreciated by everyone.
All of the interns had a weekly catch up with our manager, who made sure that we were alright. Our mid-internship review made sure that we were all on the right track and our manager offered guidance to ensure that we got the most out of the internship. Furthermore, we had mentors to further support us. I regularly met up with my mentor to practise presentations etc. and she My team members were also very supportive both for client work and my internship projects and presentations.
As we had our own internship goals and objectives (which included weekly presentations, shadowing, going on client visits etc.) to complete alongside client work, I was never bored. I was given enough client jobs to make me feel like a valued team member and like I was having an impact, but never too much. It was rare for me to stay late at the office.
After the two weeks of training, we were placed into teams who assigned us client work appropriate to our level of knowledge. My skills were developed as I was given the opportunity to work with products I had never used before and it was really cool to know that I was helping real clients with each task I completed.
Thanks to the internship, I am a much better Excel user and have become a confident FactSet user. In addition, I have developed my problem-solving and analytical skills due to my exposure to client queries. Balancing client work from our teams with our internship projects and presentations developed my time management skills. Giving at least one presentation a week has made me a more confident public speaker and this skill will be very helpful at university and in my future career. Before the internship, my knowledge of financial terminology was quite limited and now I feel a lot more confident discussing bonds and other markets.
The Company
Warm and friendly. Everyone was quite young.
It was very well organised. The structure was good: two weeks of training and eight weeks in project pool. We also had goals and objectives (organise one hour of phone shadowing a week, attend a minimum of three client visits etc.) as well as weekly presentations that developed our soft skills and knowledge.
We had two weeks of training, mostly on the FactSet software but also including general Excel, soft skills, financial terms and products etc. The presentations and client work we were given meant that we learned continuously.

Very appealing!
The Culture
We got on well and hung out after work. We also organised our own activities (e.g. 4th July celebrations, birthday meals, going to see a musical) which added a nice atmosphere to the internship.
It was expensive to me, but I go to university in the north and London is generally expensive.
Not sure because I never went out - not keen on clubbing, We went to some nice bars (one had a mechanical bull).
Yes, there were options to volunteer and we had a charity football event.
