    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The whole experience from start to finish has been very enjoyable. From the first day everyone has been incredibly friendly and keen to make my time as enjoyable as possible. Throughout the internship there were frequent speaker and social events which gave us a chance to interact with other interns and different business areas.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have been made to feel very valuable by my colleagues. Everyone has taken time to provide me with feedback on my work in order to ensure that I will continue to improve and become more and more valuable to the team. I was given regular encouragement to help push me along.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Good guidance was provided through regular meetings with my line manager. These meetings gave me the opportunity to ask any questions I had and to receive general feedback from the team. However I was always given the opportunity to ask questions even outside of these meetings. Everyone in the team made me feel very welcome to ask questions about anything I was working on.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload varied a great deal. Sometimes it was extremely hectic with a great deal to do, but on other days it was very quiet with very little I could help with, however this is simply the nature of business and was something that I expected. It was busy more often than not which meant I was learning a great deal.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was generally given a very high level of responsibility which allowed me to learn a lot more than otherwise. At one point during the internship nearly all full time analysts were on holiday leaving me and the other interns to fill their place. We were trained up in advance for the regular tasks that we would be completing whilst they were away which prepared us very well.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained many new skills and enhanced my pre-existing ones. The skills I have gained will certainly help me to cope under pressure in the future whether that be in my degree studies or beyond. Other skills I have gained may not be too applicable to my degree studies but they will definitely be extremely useful when it comes to a full time job.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a fairly quiet atmosphere but it did not feel dull. I did not feel out of place to walk around and chat with people. There was the occasional opportunity to go for lunch or drinks with someone from the team, but these times were not as frequent as I was expecting or hoping for.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very well organised overall with everything set up in advance. We were given a detailed timetable of all activities going on throughout the internship on the first day which made it easy to keep track and prepare for things in advance. Each event organised by HR was seamless and provided a positive contribution to the internship experience.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were all provided with a lot of personal training and I felt like UBS were investing a lot into us. The initial training week contained many events that were designed to help us as a person. Throughout the internship itself we were provided with several talks from external speakers that were both interesting and valuable.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It was made clear to us that UBS goes to great lengths to keep its employees for as long as possible. Prospects seem very appealing as there is scope to move up the ladder and plenty of opportunity for internal mobility, both geographically and between divisions. During my time I saw many examples of people who had made good use of these opportunities.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The option to socialise with fellow interns is there if you are proactive to seek or organise something for the weekends.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • There was a high cost of living as expected with London.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good nightlife.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are plenty of activities such as volunteering and social clubs however these seemed to be more suited to full time employees. We were given an insight into these to show us what will be avalibile if we join full time.
