    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the time that I spent at ARM. The projects that I was a part of and worked on were really interesting. I felt really welcomed into the company by everyone in the team, everyone was really friendly and the people I was working with made the experience even more enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I do feel like I was valued by my colleagues and I felt like I was treated like a permanent member of the team. A lot of people I worked with were passionate about the area I was working on and I felt that they valued my input and the work I was doing to develop this.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I feel this is the part of my internship that was handled the best. When I started my internship I spent the first week or two exploring what the company had already done in the area and doing further research online and speaking to members of the team. My line manager wanted to make sure I spending my time at ARM doing something I was really interested in. It was nice that I had a say on what I would be focusing on for the Summer. Once the project I was going to be working on was decided, I felt that I had the perfect amount of guidance from my line manager on the project, while still being able free reign to put my mark on it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For the majority of my internship I felt like I had the perfect balance. There was the odd occasion where I felt I didn't have much to do. However, I think this was due to the nature of my work, I sometimes needed to wait for responses from other people in the company and before I got these I could not continue with what I was working on.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think I was given quite a lot of responsibility, I had three main projects that I worked on during my internship all of which I was the main contributor to. I felt that I was given a good amount of responsibility where I felt what I was doing was going to be helpful for the company without feeling too much pressure.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • All the projects that I was a part of during my internship corresponded extremely well with my studies at university, I feel like the experience that I gained will help me a lot in my final year at university and any further study. I have also gained skills that I would have not got from university and feel like I am now more prepared for life after university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was really friendly and there was always someone who was happy to have a chat to get away from work for 5 minutes. There was a buzz about the office which made the work environment feel relaxed. For me it was the perfect environment to get my work done, it wasn't loud but there was never deadly silence.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I feel that the set up of my internship was perfect. I felt very comfortable before I started, as there was someone I could call or email if I had any questions. When I started there was a clear time frame for the Summer. It was also good because there was some flexibility in what I was doing which removed any unnecessary pressure.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I didn't attend any training sessions during my internship. However, I had constant contact with my line manager and frequent meetings to see how I was doing, which I found really helpful. I will also have a career session, to talk about further opportunities, which is available for all interns.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I feel like ARM would be an excellent company to work for when I graduate, and I hope that there will be future opportunities for me to work with them.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a lot of opportunities to meet up with fellow interns in the company. There were frequent events that were put on by interns for interns out of work hours. I personally didn't make it to any of these as I was commuting rather than living in Cambridge so found it difficult to be a part of this.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I found that the cost of living in Cambridge for the Summer was going to be very expensive. This is why I decided it would be best for me to live with a friend and commute for about an hour to and from work everyday. It was cheaper for me to do this including petrol costs, than live in student accommodation in Cambridge.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not applicable.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were lots of opportunities to do things with other interns in the company outside working hours. There were also lots of clubs you could join that were advertised by the company. I found that the company gym was perfect for me and went at least 4 times a week during the Summer.
