    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I interned in the consequential risk and compliance department. The work was very varied and I got exposed to many different areas within the department. I was also given opportunity to learn more about other department and therefore, the internship gave me a great exposure to the functioning of the bank.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility and a deadline to complete them by. I was also invited to many meetings and was constantly updated about the different projects. In the last few weeks of the internship, I was given an independent project to handle.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The department is very collaborative and open. Everyone in my team was very approachable and friendly, and they did not mind sparing some of their time to guide me through different processes.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload was very manageable and I had very reasonable hours. I never felt too under pressure. However, sometimes I hoped to receive more work, so that I could be put in a more challenging environment.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good amount of responsibility and I also played different roles within the same team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed planning and organisational skills that would definitely improve my time management skills at university. I also learned a lot about the financial market and different regulations that display the practical side of the modules I learn in university (which are heavily theoretical). I also learned a lot about corporate culture and the importance of collaborative decision making and team work. I believe that the exposure I got during my internship and the things I learned will be very useful for my future career.
