The Role
I liked the bank's idea of always training people and the open and kind culture at Barclays. However, my place in the team was not clear and therefore it was hard to get a good fit with the team.
As I was split between two teams, I was not considered as a core intern in each of them, which left me with less exposure and less interesting work. It was then harder to be recognised for technical skills or efficiency when it comes to basic repetitive job.
A lot of guidance but my situation was exclusive so hard to solve or to be guided. Managers clearly care about the situation but it did not make a lot of difference in the end as
No problem with staffing, a lot to do.
Not much, a lot of datamining. In itself, I understand it is key and important and that you show professionalism doing it as well as Excel skills, I even appreciate findingthe right information and I have been definitely keep on doing it. however, my intershipship has been 95% databases filling (7 databases in total) with very limited exposure to more senior than analyst. No pitch, no RfP, no deal.
I got to know ECM is not for me. I do prefer analysing companies and valuation, which I alreday experienced during a year in Leverage financ and M&A, I wish to pursue in this direction.
The Company
Very good atmoshpere, nice and open people, very good team building events and cohesion.
The shadowing session were interesting yet rotations would have been nice because it is like discovering a branch without having a hand on it. it felt like teasing, yet the coffee option with the team was great.
A lot, training was amazing and all the teaching session, particularly in ECM, were greatly prepared. It is very nice to have this idea of product agnosticism. Great learning curve.
Within the Bank, very appealing. I can definitely consider a position in ECM but I would not stay there becasue I do prefer the valuation aspect of M&A
The Culture

No problem
No idea
