The Role
The UBS summer internship was very enjoyable and the whole process was a vast learning curve.
My colleagues made me feel very welcome. They frequently checked in with me to see if I needed any help but they also appreciated the help that I could give them and regularly asked for my opinions on matters they were discussing.
My line managers always made time for me and I had regular review meetings where I had the chance to ask for feedback.
I had a main project that ran throughout the internship along with tasks that I was expected to complete daily. There were also numerous lecture series and other events that run for all interns.
Due to the role I was interning for I couldn't have the level of responsibility that the full-time employees had, however the projects I were given to complete were of good use to the desk and I had the responsibility of completing them on time and to a high standard.
The whole process was a vast learning curve that has definitely prepared me for work after university but has always helped develop the skills I need for my degree studies.
The Company
The culture at UBS was one of my favourite things about the internship; the whole firm had a collaborative attitude and people are always willing to help you.
We received a timetable on the first day which consisted of the schedule for the whole internship, and all of the events and meetings were organised well.
The first week of the internship was an induction week involving both personal and professional development workshops, and business specific training.
The internship is very competitive, but all interns are given the same opportunities to try and get a place on the Graduate Training Programme.
The Culture
There we 3 socials organised by the firm and scheduled into the intern timetable and we also regularly went for drinks after work.
As expected London was quite expensive, but there were a few cheaper alternatives dotted around.
The area was great for socialising and the Nightlife was lively, with the only downside being the cost - as expected in London.
There were regular opportunities to get involved with volunteering as the firm has a Community Affairs team.
