The Role
I have enjoyed the placement as it has given me an insight into the working environment and how the course I am doing at university translates to real applications. I have enjoyed working with lots of different people to gain knowledge on different areas of my work, to better understand what I was doing.
I felt very valued by my colleagues as they involved me with everything that was going on. They showed me round places on site, talked me through work that they were doing, and gave me work to do to help with what they were doing. I really felt like a part of the team by the end of my time. The working environment is very inclusive and supportive.
I was constantly given support and guidance from my line manager. We had weekly meetings to see how I was getting on and to make sure I was happy with what I was doing. I also had regular meetings with my main project supervisor to work out how I was going to keep progressing my work to my best ability.
At the start of the placement, I wasn't too busy because I hadn't got fully stuck into my main project because it needed time to get properly started. Once I got going though, I was always busy and always had work to do. I was also given extra work which allowed me to gain more knowledge and stopped me from having gaps in my work.
I was given a good level of responsibility with what I was doing. I was giving my input and directing the main project of work that I was doing, which was very helpful to them. I also acted secretary for important meetings which was good. The main thing was that it was nice to have work that was contributing to a real application.
The skills and knowledge I have gained will really help me with my degree. This is both on a large scale with a greater understanding on engineering in real world applications, and also on a smaller scale, with report writing, using excel, communication and meeting people. I have also learnt a lot about aeronautics which will really help me with my degree.
The Company
The atmosphere was usually good, although some times it was just really quite and didn't have much of a buzz. The office is soon to be re-developed though so that will help. The local team atmosphere was always really good though, everyone engaging well with each other and working well. It was a nice team to work in.
The internship was extremely well organised set up. There was always constant communication right from the word go, and all the way up to the start of my placement. I have also received communication throughout my internship, giving me ways of speaking to people if I needed to. It made doing the internship very easy.
I went on a couple of training course during my time which did help to an extent with the work that I was doing. I was also shown round and given lots of extra material that I could get involved with during my time. There was also always lots of talks and opportunities to learn about things that you were not directly linked too which was good.

I would defiantly want to work at Rolls Royce again. As an employer and group of people to work with, it has all been really good. If I went back though I would want to work In a different area, getting involved with something different. My only hesitation would be that working for such a big company, meant that things take a very long time to do, so projects have long lives therefore there isn't too much variation on a small scale.
The Culture
There was yes. There were always events going on, be it sports or just socials. I really enjoyed what was available and was able to go on a three peaks trip too which was great fun. Some of the other people of internships lived together over the summer and I get the impression that they had a really good time too.
