The Role
Work in Investment Banking was really interesting, challenging and I really enjoyed the fast pace
Nomura has a great culture appreciating every individual which is not common in investment banking
Supervisors always took time to guide me and to give me comprehensive feedback
Workload varied significantly as it is common for the nature of business. During more quiet times we were not hold unnecessarily in the office.
My responsibility increased with the trust of the team members into my work
I further developed my practical skills such as excel and power point but also trained more generalist skills such as time management, professional business communication and working under stress
The Company
The atmosphere was generally friendly but not joyful or talkative as everyone is focused on his/her work. For students with no prior experience in the UK finance sector this might be a bit peculiar and take some time to adjust. However, having heard stories about the atmosphere at other banks, it seems to be relatively good at Nomura.
The Graduate Recruitment did an excellent job regarding the organisation of the internship. All requirements, deadlines were well organised and communicated sufficiently in advance. The overall program was well-rounded giving a good mix of training and social events as well as sufficient opportunities to network within the bank.
The internship included a 1 week training for all kinds of professional skills as well as later several soft skill training and team building events during the placement phase. The trained skills ranged from classical Excel and powerpoint skills as well as the things that required in the daily business such as compliance etc. to several trainings on presentation, networking and communication skills.

The Culture
The social scene was generally very good and was enhanced by several events organised by HR directly. People quickly made friendships and started going out after working hours. There was surprisingly little group building and separation. Probably the reasonable size of the class (40 in total) facilitated this positive outcome as well.
