The Role
The internship provided a perfect peek into HR for me. The colleagues were friendly and extremely supportive and the culture at the work place was welcoming. From the range of projects I worked on, I loved that the internship not only focused on my development in the workplace but also as an individual part of society, in the form of the Responsible Business Challenge.
It is now the end of the internship and I am yet to come by a colleague who was less than pleasant and supportive towards me. From my line manager and other colleagues who sit close me, to other colleagues far away in other regional offices, everyone was always present to lend a hand or meet for coffee and even refer me to colleagues in other streams I had an interest in.
My line manager provided me with guidance and support every step of the internship. She gave me the opportunity to lead a project and was always present to talk through any qualms I had. Apart from this, I had the chance to meet and chat with various senior leaders from HR who were all equally supportive and gave me the assurance that if there was anything I wanted to chat about, then they were just a call away. The vibrant culture at Lloyds is not only embedded in the colleagues but also the Senior Leaders.
Due to the agile working practices that are prevalent at Lloyds, the first three days of the week were especially busy for me. However, towards the end of the week there would be a lull in the workload. However, because apart from the projects I was working on, we also had Intern/Scholar activities (i.e. Responsible Business Challenge) that we were involved in, therefore the workload was generally evenly spread throughout the week.
I had the chance to lead a project on Agile Working for the HR stream I was working in, which was a pleasant surprise as I thought that as an intern I would merely be a team member and not a leader. However, in leading the project I had to acquaint myself with various responsibilities that came with the package. Apart from this I was involved in other projects as well that were diverse in nature.
The leadership and organisational skills I developed while at my time here will assist me greatly in my last year at uni.
The Company
Very friendly, supportive and welcoming.
Very well structured.
I felt part of the firm from the inception, till the end of my internship.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
The Culture
London was expensive, but the accommodation and travel expenses were covered, so the cost of living and socialising was not too high.
