The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working in the Finance department at Porsche Retail Group. The experience I gained, and the skills that I learnt over the course of the year are invaluable. I had the opportunity to put business theory that I had learnt over the course of my degree into practice which helped me get to grips with some of the more difficult topics.
I was made to feel like an essential member of my team by being the responsibility to work on my own individual projects as well developing my role further.
I received constant on the job training from my manager which allowed me to develop my skills extensively over the year. I was also offered many off site training opportunities to further aid my personal development as well as learning key transferrable skills such as interpersonal training.
Work load was often seasonal due to the nature of my role. Certain times of the month or year were often very busy, however this meant that in the less busy periods I could catch up on work that I may have missed during the busy periods.
I was given an increasing amount of responsibility over the course of the placement. I gradually took on more tasks as well as assisting my manager with ad-hoc projects and additional month end tasks. I had the opportunity to develop my daily reports in order to improve the quality and value of these reports.
I was able to develop a variety of different skills over the course of the year from Microsoft office skills, to interpersonal skills and presentation skills. All of these skills are transferrable and will be able to be used in any future workplace as well as in university studies.
The Company
The atmosphere differed at different times of the day/ month. At busy periods it was often quite which enables you to focus and there were other times where it was more lively.
I feel there are definite areas of improvement such as they way in which some intern group tasks are run. However, all of the training opportunities that were set up were very well organised and beneficial to the interns.
I was offered a variety of training opportunities such as interpersonal training, introduction to Porsche (driving day), commercial awareness briefings and cv workshops. All of these training opportunities allowed me to develop transferrable skills as well as improve my future employment prospects.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
There is no graduate scheme offered meaning it is unlikely that there will be employment opportunities after university.
The Culture
The group of interns did many activities and social together over the course of the year such as nights out and pub quizzes.
I was able to live at home while working at Porsche meaning costs were kept low.
Theres a number of bars and clubs in Reading that the interns would sometimes go to after work on a Friday.
I had the opportunity to attend Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, there were also opportunities to attend other motorsport events and intern challenge events as well as team meals.
