The Role
I really enjoyed it, from day one I was given hands on projects to work on. I felt like a colleague not just an intern and felt like my work was making a diffferent- making it a very enjoyable experience.
I felt very much like a valued colleague, my team checked up on me daily to make sure I was getting on okay and if I needed any support/anything else to do. I was given time to work on my development and was constantly pushed to pursue the areas across the bank I was interested in, which made me feel really valued- like I was there to develop my career not just do the jobs that no one else wanted to do,
Both my manager and the head of function offered me daily support and guidance. On the first day my manager set aside 15 minutes in the morning and afternoon for everyday of my internship to check how I was getting on, as well as a weekly hour review slot to see how i was progressing. I got both a mid placement and end of placement review in order to look at what I had achieved/ wanted to achieve in the future.
Overall for the majority of the time I had enough to be getting on with without feeling overwhelmed, however some days I felt like I could have done more.
I was given my own tasks to get on with, without feeling like I was being 'babysat' on them, only being offered support when I asked for it- which made me feel like I had a lot of responsibility,
The skills I have learnt will be invaluable, I have worked in a corporate business environment which will set me up for my future, I have interacted with senior colleagues, meaning I now know how to engage with them as well as having the opportunity to complete another internship next year and roll on to the grad scheme.
The Company
This entirely depened on what office I was in. The digital office was dynamic and fun, whereas some of the others were a lot quieter however by no means boring- there was always a friendly atmosphere and a sense of 'banter.'
The whole process from beginning to end was perfectly organised, at no point did I feel like I didn't know what the next step was.
Lloyds constantly pushed for personal development, with weekly webinars to develop specific skills, as well as ensuring we completed general group wide training. Even though I was only with them for 10 weeks, I by no means felt like they did not invest in me.
Flexi Time
Working from home
I have another internship lined up for next year, after which I will hopefully roll on to the grad scheme in the area I pursue my internship next year.
The Culture
There was opportunity to socialise with the other interns from the first day as we all met at an induction event. We then took it upon ourselves to arrange socials over the course of the internship. We were put into team to do a responsible business challenege, which created a good social scene as it 'forced' us to work together,
As it was in Birmingham, the cost was relatively cheap. With lots of offers on around the office for socialising meaning nights out were cheap.
Lots of clubs and pubs around where I worked as well as cocktail bars. Could walk out of work and find somewhere to go out within 30 seconds.
Not particuarly.
