    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the global reach and large scale of the work, specifically working for the largest corporations in Europe on relevant projects. I also enjoyed the international atmosphere in my team and the cooperation with some team members.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In general, people value your intelligence and your input on certain topics, but sometimes senior people don't value your time and will give you very time-consuming tasks that add very little value to the presentation.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You get a lot of support from analysts, as they are mostly very approachable. Associates will also take the time to explain things to you. As it gets higher in the hierarchy, people tend to be very busy but mostly still take the time to explain things that you are interested in.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very volatile, some days are very quite and you will not do much, but some days are extremely busy and you will have to deliver results every 30 minutes. That is one of the interesting components of the job and these busy days tend to be very interesting.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You are given a lot of responsibility in the sense that your work might be sent to a client or used in a pitch or other type of client meeting, but you don't really have an influence on how the presentations will look like and you rarely get the opportunity to give much input on how improve the structure/content of a presentation.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The most valuable skills you learn in an M&A internship with J.P. Morgan is working under time pressure, working on multiple projects at the same time, communication with senior people and applying corporate finance concepts to real problems. You also learn about different methodologies and perspectives to look at companies and think about companies.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is generally positive, people are friendly and will help you, but M&A in general offers a pretty quite and focused atmosphere, which means that people don't talk a lot during the day.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organized. There were a lot of networking sessions with senior, offsite events, information sessions and also buddy and mentoring programs.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot in me, especially the very good training at the beginning.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If you do well you get an offer to join full-time in the year after your internship.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, people went out together and met each other for coffee a lot. The interns at J.P. Morgan are all very interesting people, with interesting backgrounds and very international. The other interns is definitely one of the best parts of the internship.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very high cost of living and very high cost of socializing. London is very expensive in general, but if you want you will always find nice places that won't cost that much.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife scene in London is amazing and very diverse. People went to Shoreditch, Soho, Kensington, Chelsea and Mayfair a lot for bars and clubs.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • People were pretty tired from work, but every Friday you could find a group of people that would go out.

    4/5
