The Role
I definitely developed a lot of new valuable skills during the internship and placed myself in a better position to secure a good job in the future. However, the internship was exhausting and the work is quite draining and repetitive.
I thought a lot of people within the company offered useful advice and were willing to help me learn more about the industry. In terms of personal feedback, I did not think I received enough comments to know how to improve my work and develop professionally. I wish there was more guidance in terms of explaining the bigger picture of the projects i was working on as opposed to micromanagement.
There were days when I was very busy and days where I didn't have much work. However, overall, I thought I had an adequate amount of work to do and the work was balanced between more interesting projects and more tedious tasks that had to be performed.
I worked on a few live deals during my internship so I received more responsibility than I expected. I was also able to attend a meeting with a client very early on during my internship.
I think the skills I received and the connections I made will definitely be helpful in my career in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere was better than I expected. People were generaly nice, although I found it difficult to get to know people better.
I thought the internship was organized very well. The HR prepared learning sessions for the interns to learn more about the different divisions within the bank, there were women-specific networking events where I was offered a lot of useful advice, banking-wide events with senior people etc. The training I received at the beginning was also very helpful in terms of preparing me to perform well during my internship.
I thought the company invested a lot of time in helping me learn about the industry and develop the necessary technical skills.
Financial Bonus
The future employment prospects are very appealing because of the amount I can learn on the job.
The Culture
I thought the fellow interns were very friendly. I did not get an impression that the internship was very competitive among the interns and I was able to ask other interns for help when I struggled with my tasks. I thought the atmosphere was supportive and cooperative.
London is generally quite expensive, but the area close to my work placement is relatively cheaper in comparison to some other parts of London.
The nightlife was not particularly good.
Not at all.
