The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities to network and develop that my placement offered. I got to work cross functionally and quite closely with stakeholders.
I felt like I was making a big impact and helping reduce my colleagues workloads.
My whole team have been extremely supportive of me since day 1. As many of them work from home often, they ensure that there is always someone about in the office to answer any questions I have. Despite being incredibly busy, each and every one of them is happy to spare a bit of their time to support my development and train me. Specifically, my line manager has ensured this support is consistent from team members and is always willing to have a catch-up with me. He’s also encouraged my wider development by agreeing for me to shadow other departments and ultimately get a broader understanding of the business.
Some days I didn't look at the clock once as I was so busy and enjoying getting stuck into work, however other days I didn't have any jobs assigned to me so the days were slower. After a few weeks I realised the importance of asking for more work and since then I have been fairly busy every day.
Making website changes on sites that get almost 1,000,000 views a day is a lot of responsibility!
Working in a business environment is something you cannot learn at school or university. The main skill I have developed is learning to adapt my appraoch depending on the person I am reaching out to and understanding that different stakeholders work differently.
The Company
It was a lot more relaxed than I expected it to be. People are always willing to help out and answer all of my questions.
There wasn't much structure to my personal placement, apart from one specific project that my manager set me. The wider placement in terms of the intern challenges was organised fairly well.
I didn't do any training courses which I understand may not have been neccessary for only 10 weeks anyway, but many colleagues put in a lot of time and effort to support my development. Also, there was lots of opportunities to travel to London and meet my colleagues down there.

Extremely. The graduate schemes are great and I have heard positive feedback about them. There is a solid referral process in place to ensure interns have the opportunity to get onto the grad schemes if they perform well enough.
The Culture
Yes we all arranged social events on a regular basis.
Lloyds paid for our accomodation which was extremely beneficial.
Working in Halifax wasn't great but we live in Leeds so the nightlife there is great
Yes such as a day to make a different helping to refurb a local school
