About You
I was on the restructuring vacation in the Leeds office. Everyone in the office were very nice and it was very easy to ask them for help with anything. You are also assigned a 'buddy' in the office who help you through the whole process. I got involved in a wide variety of cases that really gave me a good oversight of everything that is done in restructuring. Overall I found it very easy to settle into the office and I really enjoyed my time here.
They wanted us to be involved and to benefit from the scheme. Everyone in the office was very willing to help me out and find new jobs and opportunities for me. They also organised social events for us to enjoy.
Everyone in the office was very understanding of the position that I was in and were very open to helping me out. No question was a stupid question and I wasn't afraid to reach out for help.
Over my time here I felt that I naturally improved my networking skills as I was constantly meeting new people in new situations. My basic computers skills also greatly improved. My time management skills improved as well as there were many tasks that I had to get done by a certain time. In addition to this my team work and communication skills have also greatly improved.
The Company
I did not have a fully set-up structure for my time in the office. I was not assigned a particular case to focus on so I was moving around a lot and doing lots of different tasks. This was good because I got a very wide oversight and experience of the work that is done in the office but there were also a number of times when there was not much work available in the office for me to do and this was a little bit frustrating.
Everyone in the office was very friendly and open. It was very easy to settle into the office and become part of the team. We had welcome drinks on our first day to help us get to know everyone. We also had lunch together everyday. So it was all very social and comfortable.
They set up training programmes for all the interns to help us get to grips with the company's computer software systems. We were also KPMG's online training hub for more specific skills. A lot of training was done on the job in the office and everyone was very helpful here. This definitely made the whole experience more comfortable and straightforward.
I definitely felt like I was part of the team. I wasn't moved around or doing separate intern specific activities. All of my work was done in the office with the team on the current cases.
I was able to get insight into bother the formal work culture and the social culture. There were multiple social events for us to go to. In the office we were very much part of the team so we saw and experienced the worker based culture that operated within kpmg.
Very helpful, if I wanted to know anything about any of the working areas I could ask people who work in those departments. Everyone was happy to give us their views on their experiences and why they like their departments. If I wanted to experience a different I could just ask and get involved for the day.
Everything Else
Yes there were multiple social events where you could meet other people in the firm.
They were all relaxed and enjoyable.
Yes, many of these activities were happening every week and the employees were regularly talking about them. These were activities such as spinning on a Friday morning or a hockey match against a law firm.
Definitely, it was an extremely beneficial and enjoyable experience.
