The Role
I enjoyed the KPMG audit internship a lot more than I first expected. Everybody I came across in both my home office and working on client sites were extremely friendly and always willing to help answer any questions. Although probably specific for audit, 2 of my 6 weeks were spent away working at client sites which gave a real insight into what the job entails.
My colleagues immediately made me feel welcome, encouraging me to ask questions and including me in out of work activities. When away on client sites, the team went out for dinner every night which was a good way to learn more about their lives and feel comfortable with them.
My PM made sure we had multiple meetings to make sure I was happy on the internship as well as gaining as much as possible from the experience.
The work varied from week to week. As an intern there was only a certain amount of work I could do however managers of the jobs I worked on continued to look for work for me. Colleagues were cautious to not just give me 'boring' jobs.
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility given my length of time there. All work I did will have been checked further down the line however.
Some practical skills developed during the internship will be of use in my final such as Excel and reading financial documents. However the skills I gained in speaking to people of different importance in a company and general office etiquette will be of a greater benefit hopefully assisting me hugely in my future career.
The Company
Relaxed atmosphere in the office however this is understandable with all colleagues I had met throughout my time there being very friendly and accommodating.
Slightly unorganised at the beginning due to Brexit happening just beforehand resulting in multiple jobs I had been booked on being cancelled. I don't think this was mirrored with the other interns so would not have worries about this. Despite cancellations, I always knew what job I was going to be working on.
KPMG invest hugely in you. They gave me the chance to experience working on client sites which meant they covered my expenses in terms of hotels, meals out, travel etc. This made sure that I was certain I wanted to continue with a career at KPMG.

At the end of the internship, providing you have shown interest in their graduate scheme (and worked hard) you will be offered an interview for a graduate role. They had an 85% success rate of these interviews which is a positive.
The Culture
Yes - KPMG organised a social event paid for by them one evening for all interns and some first year graduates.
I commuted from home however I know Leeds is a reasonably priced area given the size of the city.
I didn't go out in Leeds during the internship however I know it's a good nightlife.
There was the social activity KPMG had organised and the interns also organised some extra social activities outside of work time.
