The Role
It was an enjoyable experience and I had a good time. I learnt a lot and the environment I worked in made it a good experience. The people I had contact with varied and I was exposed to many different areas of the bank. I was given many opportunities and was given responsibility throughout the 10 weeks.
The work I was involved with meant I was in contact with many different people through out the bank. I worked alongside them to solve problems and create documents needed for their role. The work I produced was used in current projects and will continue to be used. So I do feel that the work I contributed was valued.
Through out my time with JP Morgan I was pushed to ask questions and ask for feedback. The responses from my manager and colleagues has allowed me to develop my skillset and push me to improve. If there were any problems or anything I was unsure about I was encouraged to set up meetings so they could be discussed.
I worked with a few different team during my time and so I always had at least one project on the go. This kept me busy through out my 10 weeks. If I wasn't busy or finished a project I was given more work to complete straight away so I wasn't left with nothing to do.
The projects I was given to complete were individual projects. I was given a brief and it was up to me to complete them so I was given as a lot of responsibility. Once I completed my tasks I would ask for feedback and make any adjustments and then send it to the relevant people and take full responsibility for the work that was produced. Any feedback was taken on board.
The skills I have learn will help me when presenting research projects back at university and the skills with data analytics I have learnt during my time will help me to take on more complex problems in the future and give me a good way of thinking to solve complex problems.
The Company
The office was a very friendly and nice place to be. The colleagues who sat around me were keen to help me out if I needed any support. The use of hot desking made sure I sat with a variety of people so I was immersed into a wide range of areas within the bank. I got to meet many people and have good discussions about what their role is in the bank.
I was given plenty of work to do and if I had any questions regarding the internship there was always someone willing to answer my questions or chase the relevant people to find an answer. The structure was clear from the start and if any changes were made they were communicated clearly to everyone so that no one was left out.
My personal development came from the work I was given to complete. I was pushed to produce results to the best of my ability and I was given continuous feedback to improve my work and learn more. My team were keen for me to develop a wide range of skills from presenting to analytics so they immersed me in a wide range of projects so I could work on these skills.
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
Half way through my internship I sat down with HR and my manager to discuss whether bot not I was on track for an offer. The feedback I received was clear and I was told my prospects and want I need to continue to do/improve to give myself the best opportunity to be offered a place on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
The social scene was good at the interns organized events and things to do over the weekends and after work.
I lived with family and so this kept expenses low
N/A
Yes there is a vibrant and active scene in Bournemouth. There is a summer of sport event which encourages everyone to get involved in a sporting event. There are also other sporting groups that meet outside of work to compete or train together. There are also other groups that meet. Interns are encouraged to get involved so they get to meet new people.
