The Role
Really enjoyed the placement, which provided good engineering challenges in a really friendly working environment.
Felt very valued by my colleagues who really treated me as part of the team. Great friends with a number of the engineering team!
All members of staff were always prepared to answer any questions I had and generally offer support and advice when needed.
My job as a site engineer meant I was very busy. However, this provided an element of challenge to ensure all work activities were completed to the right standard within the time required.
As a result of previous work placements with Costain, I was afforded by the team the ability to make decisions on site which were relative to my job experience.
The skills I learnt and training I received whilst working with Costain dovetailed nicely with my degree studies by providing necessary site experience. Solving real-life engineering problems has been great fun and added some extra depth to my studies.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very good with a number of socials and a good positive vibe.
Very well organised. Good communication from both Headquarters and the project offices.
Offered training where required and provided kit as necessary for the job.
Company Parties/Events
Very good. Hoping to get a job with the company starting in July 2012
The Culture
There was only one other placement student at the project, but we both mixed within the larger offcie social scene.
I lived at home for the duration of my placement.
I was able to carry out my weekly activities like athletics training as I was living at home, just a 40 minute drive away, so didn't look to local activities.
As above, Cardiff is very busy, so lots to see and do!
