The Role
I enjoyed spending my summer working in Barclays, it gave me the chance to develop both as a person and as a prospective professioanl.
The environment was extremely good, everyone was welcoming and embodying the values that Barclays promotes.
I was given some guidance but much was excpeted to come from me naturally. It was difficult to adjust to this in the beginning but it paid off.
It varied according to the project I was involved in but overall the workloads were balanced.
I was given actual responsibility since my projects were used as a starting point for further insights and they laid the fundations for future work in my team.
I have grown and matured as a person during my internship and developped skills I did not have before, they will definitely prove vital both at university and in the job world.
The Company
The atmosphere was welcoming and professional. Nothing stressful but professionalism was never lost.
The internship was well structured in general, I had some difficulties with the IT systems and had to chase people a couple of times but these were minor issues.
Barclays invests a lot on its employees from the very beginning and the chances of personal development represent a factor making Barclays a go to place for grads.
The grad scheme they offer after your internship is very appealying, offering you a chance to further explore different business areas or roles along with a very strong personal development.
The Culture
Social scene was perfect and diversity is one of the main benefits of working in Barclays.
London is an expensive city, the salary was good but London is not exaclty a student friendly city when it comes to expenses (e.g. rents and transportation)
The nightlife was awesome and varied.
Both London as a city and Barclays as a firm offer a lot of opportunities to get involeved outside work. Barclays has citizenship as one of the most important principles so you have the chance to be involved in many charity activities.
