The Role
I loved the internship! I got to experience different aspects of the company, I mostly worked for the Trustee Consulting team but also helped out with investment work and spent a day with the admin team and a day with the Work Health and Wealth team. Everyone in the office was lovely and friendly and always willing to help me. It was a very sociable atmosphere which made it really enjoyable.
I felt very valued. I was always thanked for every piece of work I did and given constructive criticism so that I could keep improving.
I had both a mentor and supervisor who supported me throughout the internship. I think having a designated mentor was great especially for the first couple of weeks as I would go to them with most of my queries. However, all the members of the team were more than willing to help me so I was never stuck for help.
I was always kept busy. On the few occasions where I didn't have as much client work, I would prepare my internship projects.
All the members of the team included me in different client work, so there was a good level of responsibility as I knew what I was doing was important but it would always be checked and I could always ask for help which made me feel better about the higher level of responsibility.
The skills I have learnt will be essential to a career as an actuary, I think that doing an internship is an excellent way to begin an actuarial career as you get a lot of support and are exposed to lots of different tasks.
The Company
Really friendly, everyone supports each other and gets along really well. I got to go on lots of socials with my team which helped me get to know everyone well.
The internship was extremely well organised. We began with a two day induction where all the interns came to the Liverpool office and we received training on various topics such as excel, actuarial calculations and introductions to different practice areas. I then had a mid programme review and a final review at the end. There were lots of tasks to complete which got marked and I received feedback on.
They invested a lot in me. Lots of members of the team gave me one to one training sessions in the first few weeks about different topics that would help me. I also attended all of the team training sessions.
Great! I have been offered a job with the team when I finish my degree in a years time, I'm very excited to be coming back!
The Culture
Yes, our team takes lunch together every day and I got the chance to attend many socials with them.
I lived at home during my internship but it was cheap to travel to work and I think Liverpool is a relatively cheap city to live and socialise in.
Great, there are lots of places to go out.
Yes I got involved in lots of social activities such as drinks after work, going to the cinema, doing an escape room sort of experience around the city, going to a trampoline park and much more.
