The Role
I enjoyed the placement. The team made me feel welcome and aided me with work when I was stuck. I learnt a great deal about the industry sector, through demonstration, work and site visits. Work picked up during the placement, after an initially slow start. Feedback and reviews were given as neccesary.
My colleagues did value me, and were friendly or professional towards me throughout the placement. They valued my opinion where justified, and explained where I may be wrong or could improve my technical response as necessary. Teamwork and discussion were a crucial part of the working pattern within the office, and participation was actively encouraged.
I was given close support by supervisors, and then additional support from my line manager as well. All were keen to provide relevant work for facilitating me to experience a broad range of the work covered by the businees, and all made the effort to ensure that good communication was maintained throughout the placement
This depended on the section of the placement I was in. At the start I was less busy, partly as I settled in, and partly as I learnt about the business and persons gauged my experience and reliability. This period I was less than sufficiently busy. In the latter stages of the placement, as both factors within and without of control coincided, and I had gained more experience, I was definitely sufficiently busy, with care taken by those setting work to ensure that unfeasible pressure was not applied
I was given responsibility relevant to the position, the future position and to the stage of the placement I was in. Any responsibility was built up and work was checked to determine suitability for advancement in responsibility, and feedback for improvement. Responsibility depended largely on the work I was required to do, and thus is concordant more with the nature of the business sector I was in rather than any particular failing or bonus of the parent company.
The skills I developed will greatly aid me in my future career, both from an organisational and leadership basis, and a technical basis. Opportunities within the placement were taken to hone in on the nature of a potential future career in the field, and practical skills, as well as the practical application of theory learnt during one's studies will all be of future benefit
The Company
The general atmosphere was very good with good polite communication of a professional nature maintained throughout the day, with good facilities allowing this. Communication between teams internally and externally was also good and professional, and an atmosphere that facilitated positive discussion and teamwork to solve problems was also clearly apparent.
The placement was well organised once I began work, however communication prior to starting the placement was not as good as I had hoped. No significant inconvenience was caused however, and throughout the placement, inductions, travel, or any administrative hurdle pertaining to the fact that I was but a placement student were speedily resolved.
They invested in me to an excellent level, and always have done.
Dependent on sector and personal perfomrance, as with any other company
The Culture
Placement students were very widely spread across the country, however among colleagues a friendly yet professional social scene was present, and this is reflected in the other comments that I have mentioned and discussed. An effort was made to feel persons welcome at all times and levels of engagement were variable at all times also. This allowed all persons to engage socially as much or as little as they wished.
Quite high, however not extornionate for a suburban area.
Decent, with good travel links to the most diverse scial life in the country
