The Role
I did enjoy my placement. I would have liked to be given more to do, however. I was given a really good variation of tasks though which provided depth of understanding and greater insight of what the job involves on a daily basis.
My colleagues were really nice and made me feel welcome. I sat in half a dozen different places in the office and felt comfortable wherever I went.
My supervisor was helpful and made sure I had at least one task everyday. My performance manager was also lovely and we had a good catch up just before my interview which was great.
It was a busy time for the office so it was sometimes difficult for people to always have work for me. I still completed a couple of valuable tasks everyday.
I was given a fair bit of responsibility which I enjoyed. More so as the weeks passed.
I learned some skills on excel which will prove valuable for my degree and my future. I wish to pursue a career in my department, tax, so the skills picked up will be useful in the future.
The Company
Very friendly and fun.
I think it could be better organised. I was not always busy and was occasionally left on research projects that lasted more than it should have.
We had a couple of days training as well as an induction which was good for development purposes and to meet other interns.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Very good. There are a vast number of opportunities - to move up in the company, to move to a smaller one or even to a different service line.
The Culture
I made good friends with another of the interns who I socialised with after work most nights. Other than this, there were not many other interns in my office who were around (others were audit who are always out!)
The cost of living was reasonable, better than London at least.
I was in Bristol so I'm sure the nightlife was good but I didn't get a chance to venture out.
I finished at 5/5.30pm everyday so definitely a chance to meet friends and do activities in the evening.
