About You
It was a great experience in which I had the opportunity to feel part of the team and not an outsider. Little by little a could do more and feel I was learning. The best part was the people, welcoming, helpful, and positive which made much more of these 4 weeks in which it was as if they knew you already and you were not there just for a short period.
All members of the team were happy to help at any moment with any question I had. Moreover, during the first days I had meetings with different people of the department in order to explain me how each software and system work and what was the main objective of it, which really help.
I had learned and experience things I would never thought about. But as I was in the technology team it had to do little with what I learned at my degree. Although note everything. I feel positive about this as I believe I had the possibility to learn things and skills I will not have the option to at my degree or any other job.
The Company
As I explained above, the atmosphere was one of the best things of this vacation scheme. Not feeling like an outsider and being always welcomed really help to look forward for a new day and ask any type of question I had without feeling insecure. Having this feeling help to clarify any doubt I could have about how something worked.
I did feel they invested in me not only giving me the month of experience and teaching me every day but especially with time. What I mean with time is that they offered me they time to help me and explained me things without pressure and taking the necessary time. I felt valued with this as its time of the their work and it is unrecoverable (time) which says a lot about them.
It was clear through all the vacation scheme the values KPMG h company and how important it is for the company. Most importantly, there is a feeling that wokers follow these values and agree with them, as it might be that the company believe in them but workers do not implement it on their day to day work, which is not the case
Even though I like my experience, this 4 weeks helped me to clarify myself what I want to do with my future and it was direction to go. If it was not because of this opportunity and do think I would still be a bit "lost". Moreover, when I was thinking about what department I really like KPMG really helped and I had the possibility to speak with someone from other department to me more sure about this step. Once more, this showed me the kindness of the workers at KPMG.
Everything Else
Although I would do an internship without being payed I do feel being payed can motivate more candidates. Not because of the money itself but because it makes you feel a bit more part of the company and that they value and have faith on you. That you are not there as anyone could be but that KPMG do believe you can work hard. This motivation I really thing it can help.
During the first three days I reckon it had a positive impact on us that all interns started together. Not only it gave us the possibility to network with students like you who might have taken different paths or similar ones to you, but also it gave you a bit of confidence feeling you are not the only one in this situation and that most of them feel as you do.
With no doubt I would encourage friends to apply for an internship in KPMG. Compare to other internships I do feel this one was the most complete and gave me the most experience. I feel as everyone can get something of it even though you might end it knowing you don't want to work on that department it still a great opportunity to learn.
