The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my 12 week placement. The company invested significant resources in making sure I got the most out of my time here. I was given tours of manufacturing facilities, introduced to the model programmes and given a realistic experience of what it is like to work for JLR.
My colleagues valued my effort and contribution. I was treated as a regular employer and expected to perform like one.
My manager assigned me to a senior engineer who looked after me during my stay. I was supported and guided throughout the placement. I was amazed at the level of knowledge and expertise the people around me had.
During my time I always had tasks to complete. Whenever I required more work or finished a task, my supervisor and manager were available to set new objectives.
Some of the work I completed was time critical so involved a lot of responsibility. Other work was less time critical. My work was constantly reviewed and feedback was given.
My time at JLR has given me an amazing flavour of what it is like to work in the automotive/manufacturing industry. The placement has been priceless for my development and has significantly motivated me to succeed at completing my degree and seeking a graduate position.
The Company
I have worked in numerous places and can whole heatedly say that JLR has got the best office atmosphere. My department was located in a new state of the art building in Gaydon which was very pleasant. Depending on my mood, I could sit in a quiet area, communal area or with my team in the hot desk area. The employees are also really positive and this creates a =n enjoyable environment for all. The company also asks for regular feedback through surveys on office improvements and does its best to accommodate requests.
At the start of my placement, my manager set me objectives and goals. As the placement progressed the goals were reviewed. The organisation of the placement depends largely on your manager as HR didn't really set how the placement should be structured.
I was at JLR for 12 weeks. However, the company did not hesitate on spending a significant amount of money sending me to a training course of my choice. The scheme funds employees and helps them learn and pursue a hobbie / training scheme. The company works in close partnership with the university of Warwickshire allowing employees to pick training modules to complete. The training modules are designed to help with everyday work and career progression. The modules can be used to help support an engineer towards gaining accreditation.

The company hires a significant amount of engineering graduates on a yearly basis. Most of the graduates are employed after an internship/placement. This means that if a student is successful they can receive a graduate role offer and not have to go through the entire application process again.
The Culture
The company has a graduate and undergraduate network which is improving rapidly.
I lived in Leamington Spa which is a really pleasant area. The cost of living is low compared to London but high compared to Coventry.
NA
Employees were encouraged to undertake local community projects in schools etc. The external work boosts employee moral and develops them.
