The Role
I really enjoyed my summer placement with Ford, I felt very independent as I was set tasks to complete with little supervision once it had been explained what to do.
My colleagues appreciated the work I did, and asked me how I was getting on and whether I was enjoying my work.
Tasks were explained and then I was left to my own devices to complete them. Now I've completed my work placement I can get in contact with my supervisor should I need any additional information.
The work flow wasn't constant as I worked over the summer months which included a shutdown period where there was less to be done.
I was given a lot of responsibility, from the first day of my placement I had gained the trust from my colleagues that I had more than enough knowledge to complete set tasks successfully.
I learnt many new skills that directly link in with my university course, whilst allowing me to transfer my course knowledge into the working world.
The Company
There was a great sense of teamwork in the office.
The placement was reasonably well organised in the sense that there was work for me to do, however my supervisor was away for a lot of my time at Ford.
I was given good training for the tasks I had to complete, I also learnt a lot outside of my subject area.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Quite appealing as I had an enjoyable time working for Ford.
The Culture
I didn't meet any other students, however my colleagues shared jokes and conversation.
Lived at home.
Didn't experience it.
No opportunities arose.
