The Role
Great professional environment, friendly people and full of opportunities to explore the banking sector.
I was given the opportunity to really add value to my team by taking daily tasks and improving daily/weekly BAU procedures. My team was always there to support me and my contribution towards the team was valued straight away.
Having the immediate support fro your line manager is crucial. I was lucky to have mine sitting by my side for the whole time and there was a direct communication between us. Senior managers and colleagues within and outside my team were always there to support with any queries through face to face conversations or discussions on calls.
As busy as possible. My team ensured that I had tasks to enhance my knowledge around their expertise but at the same time they gave me time to network and enjoy my placement.
Great responsibility as for the first 7 weeks I was continuously learning the weekly/ daily tasks my team had to follow by completing different activities and tasks. The last 2/3 weeks I was given the responsibility to substitute my line manager as they were out of the office and had to carry out all the activities that my line manager was supposed to complete. Huge responsibility but truly gave me the chance to take ownership and my team was always their to support me.
I developed excellent IT skills that will be really helpful for my future studies. On top of that I had the opportunity to give presentations, communicate with many different teams, organise events and I was introduces to different software throughout my placement. Furthermore, a lot of training was provided regarding the fast paced banking sector that gave me the opportunity to better understand the industry.
The Company
Professional but friendly
As soon as I reported to the office I knew my whole timetable until the end of my placement.
We had 3 webinars, 1-2-1 sessions with our line managers and online training in different areas across the bank.
Many opportunities to progress your career in different roles and great starting salary.
The Culture
Organised a couple of events with fellow colleagues and the CSR challenge made sure that we bonded with other interns within the same site but across the UK as well
Glasgow is not an expensive city for socialising and renting a flat.
Lots of places to go out for drinks and many clubs.
I had the chance to take part in the Discovery project which is a project Santander has to help societies. Great experience and feeling helping to improve the society.
