The Role
Enjoyed my time during the internship, not to stressful (probably due to it being summer). Got to experience a range of areas within the company and carry out a variety of tasks. Really glad I was placed in London. Met lots of people (colleagues as well as other interns), everyone was very nice and friendly.
I worked closely with my buddy who I felt valued my work and I really felt like I helped out a lot. I feel that the work my manager gave me was important enough to make me feel like my work was valued but not time pressured at all which made me suspect that if I messed up it could be re-done.
Had 121s weekly when possible (this is supposed to be part of the internship though I heard not everyone received this), had a lot of contact with my buddy also who helped hugely and luckily was in the same office as me. Open plan office meant it was easy and encouraged to just walk up to my manager/anyone to ask questions where I needed to.
Quite varied throughout, some days I had almost no proper work (even though I would always ask for work if I had nothing to do), mostly there was a steady stream of some work, only one out of the ten weeks I remember being really busy and slightly stressful. From talking to others on the internship the amount of work is varied, some were very busy, some less so.
I feel like I was given reasonable responsibility from the beginning of the internship but nothing huge. I was responding to queries (though simple ones) from my second day. Made some simple presentations with analysed data and handled data for logging purposes, etc. Was given a small ‘project’ to do that I felt was important but as mentioned before, not at all urgent so not much time pressure.
Improved organisation skills and I feel like I’m now able to work for longer periods of time which should help during my degree. Learnt many simple office and work skills/etiquettes such as sending emails, communications, etc, that should help me in future placements. Developed quite a few new excel skills and presentation making skills.
The Company
Relaxed (though this could be due to summer) but still hard working. Open plan office meaning managers were sitting with us which was nice. Everyone was really friendly and open to questions. Generally seemed like everyone got along well.
Quite well, though I feel this varies from intern to intern, I felt that I could have had a lot more work to do but I wasn’t doing nothing so it wasn’t too bad. Overall structure of internship was quite good, only snags were from HR before the internship started and then asking for referencing information very late into the internship.
Had two inductions, one to the company and one to my department which were OK (though some repeated information), 3 web training sessions on different areas of the bank which were interesting, my buddy also helped a lot with my understanding of my department, I was also sent to other offices to get a wider understanding of bank though I’m not sure how many interns experienced this.

Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Reasonably good.
The Culture
Went out weekly with the other interns who were in London which was really good. Would have drinks with colleagues less often, maybe every 2/3 weeks. Also socialised with grad students in the office often having lunch with them. Everyone I met was really nice and friendly. Being in London probably helped.
I lived at home in London so almost no living costs. Travel cost a lot. Food and drinks in some places are ridiculous but there are cheaper places too.
It’s London.
The interns had an hour every week to work on a charity project within a group of about 8/9. It helped us network with the other interns (as well as other colleagues within the company) and also gave us something to do outside of work. Charity work is really encouraged for all employees.
