The Role
It was a really good experience - I was given an interesting project that I was able to take in whatever direction I chose, and I felt like the work I was doing was genuinely useful to the company.
My line manager and mentor were brilliant and helped me a lot. The rest of the team were friendly enough and helped me whenever I asked for it.
I had a designated line manager who was really good at explaining my work to me and helping me to understand results and improve my project.
Slightly bored for the first couple of weeks, as it takes a while to build up some knowledge before you can get properly stuck in to your work. However after that I felt like the balance was pretty good.
I was given a lot of responsibility with my project and was trusted to investigate what I felt was necessary - but my levels of responsibilty outside my project was low. But I think that's fair - as an intern with no previous experience in the industry, there is a limit to how much responsibilty I was capable of having.
A lot of computer based skills that will be invaluable. Also communication, and experience at really driving my own project and taking it where I want it to go will definitely help with my 4th year project.
The Company
Very friendly, people willing to have a chat every now and again. Often have cake sessions.
pretty good. would probably like more guidance on what's expected at reviews / assessments.
Presentation skills course was provided.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Get through to assessment centre - so will have to see.
The Culture
Really good - all living in student halls together, so as interns we had activities planned most weekends e.g. beach trips, highland games, bowling, mini golf, LOTS of cinema trips (there's very cheap student tickets!)
Drinks can be expensive in Aberdeen, as are activities such as bowling and mini golf. but on the whole not too bad, better than london.
slightly limited, but still good fun if you're with the right people!
There are plenty of oppounities in Aberdeen, but you have to go looking for them. e.g dance classes, ice skating courses, sports centre
