The Role
I really enjoyed the ten week placement. Before you’ve even started you are made to feel welcome and wanted. Lots of responsibility given with the chance to work on live projects from the off. I had a specific line manager as well as a buddy for support and advice. It’s also made clear what competency’s they are looking for and support is on hand to achieve them. Great opportunity to gain valuable skills to further you career and maybe get offered a place on the graduate scheme.
From day one I was made to feel like I was valued by the people around me. Everyone I came in contact with seemed interested in how I was doing and whether I was enjoying the experience. I was also made to feel valued though feedback given from managers and support provided.
Support and guidance was given through weekly 1-1’s with managers, which could take the form of a meeting or a quick catch up on how I was getting on. It also gave me chance to ask any questions. Also other members of my team would be more than happy to help with a query I had and support me if needed. When it came to competing tasks help was there if needed, however you are also expected to be able to complete tasks independently.
Throughout the Internship I always had work to be getting on with, from working on a project or meeting with fellow interns to plan/carry out fundraising for the charity partners as part of an Intern charity challenge. If I ever did get any spare time there was vast amounts of e-learning resources available to take advantage off on a variety of related topics.
One of the most impressive things about this ten week internship was the level of responsibility afforded to me from day one. After completion of the mandatory training required in first week, I was straight away given a live project to work on, which for me lasted the whole ten weeks.
There was lots of skills I could take away from the 10 weeks for example; time-management though achieving project deadlines, data analysis though working with large amounts of data on excel, corporate behaviours through working in a corporate environment and communication though engaging with different internal stakeholders. All of which I will carry forward into my final year and future career.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great. There was a perfect balance between the corporate nature of the business and the friendly nature of all the employees. At no point during the ten week placement did I feel uncomfortable in my surroundings. Dress code was business attire with every Friday been a dress down day.
The internship seemed really organised throughout. From the structured recruitment process, to the information and contact provided before starting and all the way though. Any tools required to undertake any tasks required were provided. It was made clear who would be supporting you and also who you would report to.
In terms of personal development they invest time in providing constructive feedback on the competency’s you are expected meet. There are also organised webinars to provide extra training and insight. Your team around you are on hand to provide you with information/training if needed. There are also vast amounts of e-learning resources available to you.

Future employment prospects are very appealing graduate scheme offers four, six month rotations in differing areas in your department as well a competitive salary. You are assessed constantly throughout the 10 weeks and if you have met the required competency’s you are offered a place on the graduate scheme. The ten week internship can be a direct route onto the graduate scheme.
The Culture
Average social scene, although as the internship is only 10 weeks everyone lived in different places so this made it difficult.
