The Role
Had a brilliant time - learnt a lot, faced plenty of new challenges and made some great friends.
BP has such a welcoming culture where people are treated as individuals and truly valued for what they have to give.
The support I had was extremely helpful and my supervisor taught me a huge amount but as it was the summer and a busy time for the project I was often left unsupervised for as much as up to 3 weeks. However we spoke on the phone most days and there were other people around too. This wasn't always a bad thing - it gave me the space to be innovative and think outside the box a bit.
Always busy with lots to do but never did it feel too much. There was enough pressure to make it exciting.
Right from day one I was given actual work to do - it's a real learn on the job internship. That includes making a few mistakes but no one expects you to get it right first time, every time. The work I've done will now be used over the next two years steering the direction on the project and it's a great feeling knowing that your work is valued.
I study a completely different subject to my internship but have still found that whilst maybe not relevant to my degree the skills I've learnt will be extremely valuable to both me and a future employer.
The Company
Pretty quiet but everyone was very friendly.
Everything just worked. HR did a fantastic job.
A lot of time, money and expertise were diverted into each intern on an individual level - you always felt like they really wanted you around.

The Culture
Good if you lived in London but if not and couldn't/ didn't want to travel in. Ocassional drinks after work at the Meadhurst and most days meeting up with friends for lunch.
London Prices. Except the meadhurst which was fairly priced.
Not much goes on in Sunbury but London is pretty close.
BP has lots of scoail and sports clubs - so if you're interested in soimething all it takes is an email to find out what's going on.
