    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found my internship with Adam & Company very enjoyable as I was fully integrated into the team and was given many opportunities for professional development through training sessions. Intern engagement was at a pretty good level considering that this was the very first intern cohort for this business, and towards the end I got involved in a variety of projects and tasks.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues always gave me feedback and thanked me for a job well done. I feel that I would have been able to help even more at times if colleagues had delegated moret tasks to me but in general I feel they really appreciated my help.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager and buddy were always here to help and answer any questions I had. In the beginning I felt I would have needed a bit more guidance and reached out to my graduate colleagues for advice as I did not want to disturb more senior colleagues too much. Later in the internship I realised that even more senior members of staff were happy to give me guidance.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As one would expect, I was less busy at the beginning of the internship with fewer tasks being given to me and very busy at the end when I was able to complete most tasks independently. In addition, one can always reach out to colleagues and ask to get involved in long-term projects.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The amount of resposibility was considerable as I was interacting with hign net worth clients very early on, be it on the phone, via email or in person. I feel I could have been given even more responsibility, however. Especially in the realm of credit related tasks I felt I could have worked more independently.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This internship gave me great insights into Private Banking and the day-to-day tasks of a banker. As I had exposure to many different divisions including Investments and Business Management, I got a better awareness for the different parts of a bank and how one can apply one's academic background in this job.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was very friendly and approachable from Graduates to the MD. As the business is rather small one can get to know almost everybody and ask anyone for help.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised with two weeks of trainings and induction events. The objectives and assignments were clearly outlined to interns at the beginning of the internship and support meetings with my Line Manager were frequent so that I could stay on track.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company really invested a lot in my professional development. As most trainings were organised in London, I was always provided with appropriate travel arrangements and accommodation. The training sessions covered very important elements of the Private Banker role with a clear view of preparing the interns for a permanent role. Only one Group-wide induction event seemed less relevant to my programme.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment opportunities are appealing as this is a growing business. The only disadvantage is that the business is very UK-focused and will not offer many opportunities to work overseas.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Social scene was good. We had quite a few socials organised by Graduates as well as more senior colleagues who took advantage of the Edinburgh Festivals taking place over the summer.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very reasonable compared to the intern salary.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was OK. A lot of bars seemed overpriced.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • During the Edinburgh Festivals there were countless shows that one could attend. RBS also has many Employee Led Networks (advocacy groups, sports clubs etc.) that one can get involved with.

    4/5
