The Role
I enjoyed every day of my internship. I lead massive projects and received exposure to very senior colleagues at the bank.
My colleagues were quick to praise my work to other colleagues at any given opportunity. My colleagues supported me throughout my placement and were fun to be around.
I had a huge project to deliver. Knowing the difficulty of the task my managers spent all the time they could to support me and make sure that I was on the right track. They created opportunities for me to deliver my ideas to very senior people and raise my profile.
I was given full responsibility to manage my own time, which I was thoroughly grateful for. My days were busy when I had something urgent to deliver and not as busy when the work had been delivered.
I worked on a projects with immense value to the bank. LBG works very hard to ensure that all of its interns receive a high quality placement, where they are tasked to deliver a project of value.
Before I started my placement I was very introverted. Any sort of public speaking or presenting frightened the life out of me. My colleagues put in a lot of work to boost my confidence and set up opportunities for me to present my work to large audience of senior colleagues. Now I really enjoy presenting to large audiences and the confidence that I gained made me feel like I can achieve anything!
The Company
I was in a very small team this year compared to last year, so I expected that the social aspect would be worse but I have had a lot of fun with this team. We worked very hard but there was always time for some banter.
The Bank has a system in place to check all of the placements on offer to ensure that they of a very high quality and that there is real work for interns to do. I have had 2 internships with the bank and I would describe both as being very well organised. My managers always had a long list of interesting projects lined up for me, so I would always be kept busy with something that I enjoyed.
The bank has invested heavily in me since the start of my time at university, both in monetary terms and mentoring. During my internship, I was assigned a line manager to work under but also a graduate to help me navigate the ins and outs of the business area.
National Travel
LBG have fantastic opportunities available. They offer placements that provide valuable training, qualifications and the salaries are really impressive too.
The Culture
There was always something on where interns were getting together to socialise. My team would regularly go out for meals together and we even went bowling on my last day.
LBG covered the cost of accommodation during my placement, which had utilities included, which is incredibly generous. I covered the other everyday expenses.
I'm not much of a party animal/drinker so the nightlife didn't appeal to me but the area that I worked had lots of clubs and pubs around. There is a maccies right next to the clubs, so it can't be that bad.
Curry nights, karaoke nights, charity fundraising events, bowling and clubbing were just a few of the many invites that went out for activities outside of work. LBG also promotes a Responsible Business Challenge were interns get put into teams and are tasked to raise as much money and awareness for the chosen Charity of the Year. The winners get to attend a networking dinner with very senior Director!
