The Role
invaluable experience- but didn't enjoy it as much because my team wasn't the best and had a lot of difficult times. the other interns got me by
I didn't feel all that valued I often times felt very neglected ignored or avoided. in actual fact I rudely got questioned what I had actually done for the team undercutting all the tasks that I did do
not that much at all my supervisor was off for a good bulk of my internship and was not genuine. my line manager just didn't talk to me very much as she was very busy and it was evident that I wasn't a priority much rather it seemed I was a liability. my assigned buddy however was excellent literally helped me so much!
not busy at all literally had maybe 4-5 busy days out of the whole internship. I had to basically find work for myself
not much in my inner team. but elsewhere I got to hold meetings and run sessions with external students on behalf of the bank
got to see some of theory in practice. also going to be helpful for a module I will be doing in my final year
The Company
it was chilled pretty quiet at times except when food was around everyone just got in with what they need do. I mean that's if you have something to do. you could also wander around and speak to the other interns. when I first started it was almost like you didn't know when it was the right thing to do what in terms of going for lunch going home leaving your desk in general but as you become more comfortable you sort of make your own rules about these things
not at all I say this because even before I started my internship I had no idea what time I was due to get into the office hadn't even spoke to my line manger because when I called brexit was the higher priority. even when I first came into the internship the supervisor even told me he wasn't expecting me until 2 weeks later I was using someone else's login and laptop for the first 2 weeks and i still don't what my key
I couldn't tell you personally because I don't know although I was given a blackberry which was kinda cool. I guess in general i know and can see that they do care about investing in future talent and do want you develop there is a general consensus about that but to directly apply it to myself ir difficult. i mean i guess shadowing other areas of interest in the bank was good to do
Company Parties/Events
well this question is interesting because i feel like on the one hand if you're on a team and an area that you like or want to be in then its great i mean most of the perks of good your paid well given good holiday entitlements and encouraged agile working. it is a good place but i just haven't had a good experience im also yet to find out whether i was referred for the grad programme so right now not sure
The Culture
i can honestly say this was probably the best part of the entire internship. the other students literally keep you sane and remind you that you're all on the same boat. you have lunches with them drink with them speak to them constantly. charity challenge also forces you to socialise with interns which is a good thing. some colleagues are so nice like ridiculously nice which actually make coming here worthwhile
London cost of everything is extortionate I mean you get used to it I didn't really have a problem with the living aspect because I stayed at home but in terms of travel to work or eating during lunch- its a major cash loss
I wouldn't know I stayed at home so wasn't really involved in all the partying not saying there wasn't a nightlife I just wasn't usually a part of it. I can say one night the intern social was really good just because the interns are literally your besties during your placement
yes leaving drinks and offsite days were available. the charity challenge also meant you could do other stuff including selling doughnuts professional headshots, sweepstakes
