    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed getting involved in the work of my team and learning lots of new skills. The atmosphere in the office was very supportive and the time was always enjoyable. Getting to live and socialise with all of the other interns in the city made the experience more positive as well.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my team. Despite being busy everyone in the team took time to teach me different processes. Having not studied accounting/finance before I had a lot to learn and team members were always happy to answer any questions I had. I always felt appreciated for the work I was doing.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support from my line manager was good. We had 1-2-1 meetings every week to discuss my progress and next steps. I could ask for any feedback or support I needed. Guidance on what work I should be doing was spread more across the team instead of coming directly from my line manager.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy on a daily basis. I had tasks I had taken responsibility for to be completed monthly which were busier times. I could always ask any team members for more tasks to help out with when I had finshed one and was never left with nothing to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At the start I was able to help out doing bits and pieces for different team members. As I gained more experience I was given more responsibilty to complete tasks from start to finish. I felt like all the work I was given was genuinely useful and I was always given the oppertunity to complete tasks that were important to the work of the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Despite the work I completed not being directly relevant to my degree subject the general skills I have learned during the internship will be very useful. There were multiple online training sessions for interns focused on developing different skills and these will be helpful for my future studies and career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was fairly well organised. The process of being assigned to a location and a team was well organised however there wasn't a clear plan for what work I was expected to do at the beginning of the placement. Having weekly progress meetings with the line manager was very effective however.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was an induction event for all of the interns in London on the first day. It was a good introduction to the company and there was advice from senior leaders and previous interns. There was also a series of online training courses which focused on different areas and skills and gave some good information.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is a process for interns to be referred onto their graduate scheme.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were a lot of other interns based in the same city. All living in the same accommodation provided made it very easy meet different people and to socialise with the other interns outside of work. As part of the charity challenge there were lots of nights out/ events for interns organised.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a charity fundraising challenge run for all of the interns. This involved working in teams of around 10 to raise money for Children In Need. It required a significant commitment of time outside of work but was very worthwhile and was recognised as a valuable part of the internship.
