    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. My colleagues, the organisation, the work, the responsibilities - were all fantastic.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was nervous when I started that I wouldn't be able to make a difference and add to the value of work that my colleagues in my team were doing. However, I tried my hardest and I believe I achieved this. - Resultantly I received positive feedback from my colleagues and I was certainly made to feel valued as a result.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisors were incredibly supportive and provided lots of guidance. However, they were not overbearing - early on, they provided indication that support was there if I ever needed it, and made me feel at ease in asking for support if I ever needed it. As for guidance, I met with 30+ individuals from across the management team and from other divisions of the Group, that provided me with plenty of other guidance and information - both to get my work done and to understand more about the organisation that I was working for.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I feel that I was working at an optimum balance between being too busy and being bored. There were times that I felt that my workload may become overwhelming, but I worked closely with my line manager to improve my work prioritisation skills and I was able to get through without issue.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had no prior experience in the financial sector, resultantly, I agreed with my team and line manager that I wanted exposure to the breadth of work that my team usually complete. Resultantly I was given quite a high level of responsibility, but only after my colleagues has spoken with me to ensure that I was comfortable with this and was up for the challenge. Resultantly I had opportunities to support clients who had issues with the products that we provided with them and was also allowed to present some of my research and analysis work to some of the more senior colleagues of the group. I wouldn't say that I was "running the show" - but in the context of the team and division that I was working for, that was a good thing. I was given the right level of responsibility for someone in my position - and I feel that I excelled.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have definitely enhanced and broadened my skillset. Particularly in relation to soft-skills, client relationship management skills and presentation skills. While I have graduated from my studies, I wish I had known some of the things I have learned over the duration of my placement sooner, so that I may have applied them in my studies. With regards to skills for life, I have found a new area of work in the financial sector that I previously wouldn't have considered due to my lack of confidence in that area. Furthermore, this placement helped me to identify skill areas that I further need to enhance - such as using MS Excel - and I have found new methods to cope with my Dyslexia.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office I worked in was serious and focused on the tasks at hand, but my colleagues and staff were always friendly, polite and approachable. This was also the case when dealing with colleagues over the phone and via email who are based in our overseas offices.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Once I had arrived at the group, the internship was very well structured/set up, and it was easy to raise queries with the team managing the internship programme in my division.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel that the organisation placed much onus on training and development and I really appreciate the time they invested in facilitating this for me and the other interns, scholars and graduates.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Incredibly appealing. I hope to return in 2017.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Regarding the cost of living, I lived at home and so the costs were not high. However, travel/commuting wasn't subsidised and socialising in central London shall be costly no matter who you are or where you work - this did not phase me!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Frankly, I don't think that this is a relevant question that you should be asking in this survey. I am sure the nightlife near where I worked was great, but I have no idea. Me and my colleagues travelled to other areas of London.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Plenty - from charity softball tournaments to meeting with clients for a monthly running event.

    4/5
