    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was a lot more enjoyable and informative then I had initially thought. Everyone was so much friendlier and they all treated me like an equal and not a temporary intern. I was able to work alongside colleagues and was able to deal with real customers and their problems. I now feel more informed as to what I can expect on the graduate scheme.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I expressed my interests and what I want out of the internship with my managers and they were happy to support my journey. I told my first rotation manager that I enjoy customer focuses environments and that I'd like to work closely with customers so he tailored my project so that I can work more closely with customers. I told my second rotation manager that I'd like to see what digital do so he helped me get in touch with the digital manager. I was always treated like everyone. I was praised when I did good and told off when I did something wrong. I felt valued and was treated as an equal. That made working at HSBC much more enjoyable and insightful.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were always there to support me when I needed help. Also, my HR manager was very quick to reply to my messages which ultimately helped me complete my work quicker and my effectively. HSBC offer a lot of support, so I never felt that no one was there to listen to my concerns.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a more full and busier day during my retail rotation; but that's because of the customers. The office life was less busier but probably because the main proposition that needed to go out during that time frame had already been realised. It was still very enjoyable.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Enough to keep me busy most of the time. But in definitely could've done with more.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • No so much for my degree but a lot for the future. The skills I've learnt and developed will help me in my working life, and it has helped me prepare in terms of what I can expect.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly and stressed.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Other than the first week of each rotation which was mainly used to settle in and get a grip as to where you are and what your going to do, the rest of the time on each rotation I knew what I had to do and what of expected of me. Also, I knew where to find help and who to go to for support and feedback.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested time and resources in order to ensure that I knew what to expect if I were to take on a graduate position and to ensure I have a positive perspective of the company, which I do. The skills and knowledge I was able to gain will help me make an educated decision when I choose what I want to do for the rest of my life and who I'd what to work for.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Lots of places to work within the company and lots of room to grow.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Other interns organised get togethers. Also, the £10 multiplier challenge enables us to get to know other colleagues within our own department better as well.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Travel was expensive for first rotation, but we were handsomely compensated in our pay so it wasn't that problematic. I drove to work for my second rotation so travel wasn't a problem there either.

    3/5
