    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed working with my team as it was full of really lovely people who were easy to get on with. I found multiple times that I had nothing to do and despite asking for things to do, people didn't have the time to sit with me and give me a task.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Felt like I was valued for my fresh approach to the team, bringing the moral up. However work wise, I do not know how valuable the work I did during my ten weeks was for the team.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Given support by my Line Manager for my report and presentation when asked for. Given support when faced with nothing to do - my line manager always tried to go out and find me work to do from someone else or to give me a task himself.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some parts of my day became very busy as I was juggling my report, presentation, CSR challenge and day to day work. However at the start and the end of the internship I often found myself with no work to do as had reached a dead end with something and needed help from someone in my team to be able to go forward with it.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The only true responsibility I had was to update the Daily Balances for Business Banking and MTAs, as well as updating the Loans Weekly Trading Pack every week. Otherwise, most of the tasks I did were not my responsibility but I was supporting someone else on a task. Therefore I do not think I was given much responsibility.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have graduated so the skills I have learned I will take with me into my next job, such as the confidence to ask for help and knowing what my strengths and weaknesses are.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I really liked the team I worked with and everyone was extremely helpful and friendly.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The structure of the internship could be improved regarding the workload and organising extra knowledge shares for the interns with senior exec but i liked that the internship had a distinct beginning, middle and end.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I really improved my excel skills and my presenting and reporting skills through my every day tasks and the assessments. The CSR Challenge improved my communication and team work skills, so I feel the company gave me chances to develop myself.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The graduate scheme is being changed currently so the appeal is more uncertain than before as I may now be doing placements in Risk and Audit which I wouldn't have before. The salary is very appealing, as is the chance to live in Edinburgh and London over the 3 years. The chance to get a chartered accountancy qualificaiton is also very appealing.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes - the interns met up every weekend to go out together in Edinburgh. There were sports events organised and many pay-day drinks organised by the graduates.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • We had to pay for our accommodation £150 a week, plus about £50 a month on travel. Food was cheap as there was a lidl around the corner, but Edinburgh bars are not very cheap!!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good nightlife in Edinburgh!!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As the Fringe was on during our placement, many of us went to see comedy shows together. I joined a gym with some of the other interns, which I went to at least 3 times a week.
