The Role
Really enjoyed the internship. Gave me a good insight into what its like working full time and what it would be like to work for RBS. Fell as though I have developed throughout the internship and that I am much more prepared to begin working once I have finished university.
Colleagues were excellent. Very inclusive and always willing to help. Within my particular department I was given the opportunity to join in with activities such as football and after work drinks. Overall my colleagues made me feel very welcome and made my internship experience very enjoyable.
My line manager was excellent. Always giving support and feedback when necessary. Beyond my internship my line manager has also offered to give me further guidance if I were to return to RBS or pursue other career interests. Can't speak highly enough of how well I have been supported during my internship.
Work was sometimes patchy especially at the beginning and end of the internship. Otherwise workload was fair and manageable. Think this is just the nature of an internship. Managers were reluctant to overload me with work at the beginning and towards the end didn't want to give me work I wouldn't get a chance to complete.
Given a reasonable level of responsibility. Had the opportunity to work on some useful pieces of work and was allowed to use my best judgement when deciding how to complete set tasks.
Think I have developed greatly during the internship and that what I have learnt during my time at RBS will assist me greatly with my degree. I feel that my written and verbal communication skills have improved during the internship and that this will enable me to further improve my academic performance.
The Company
Enjoyed the office that I worked in. Perhaps a bit quite at times but think this was down to a lot of colleagues being afforded flexible working and the internship taking place during the summer (lots of people away on holiday.)
Organised Well overall. Internship events and the induction days appeared to be well organised and interesting activities were put on for interns. There were times where organisation was lacking. In particular the pay structure was quite confusing and very little information was given to us until we actually started the internship.
No formal investment in training or development. My line manager would give advice and guidance whilst completing my work but very little in terms of structured learning. Was only with the company for 10 weeks however and have been made aware that formal training is provided when in the graduate scheme.

The Culture
Yes. There was a good social scene throughout both my department and the intern community. RBS provided social events though the induction, mid-internship and end of internship events. My department also provided social opportunities in the form of nights out and weekly football.
Fairly reasonable. Was based in Birmingham for the duration of my internship and lived at home with parents so the cost of living and socialising in the area were very reasonable. Slightly more expensive when I had to go down to London for the day but still manageable. London wasn't as expensive as I though it was.
Fairly good. Based in Birmingham so plenty of places to go out to after work. However wasn't as good as when working down in London.
Yes. Not sure how many after work activities there were to get involved with in total in my location but I was given the opportunity to play football weekly with my colleagues. I am aware that there is perhaps a wider range of activities going in larger locations such as London and Edinburgh.
