The Role
It was an insightful experience working for Barclays Capital as it exposed me to the culture of Barclays which is unique compared to my previous internships.
I worked in a global team consisting 12 members with people from New York and Singapore. I felt appreciated and my efforts were definitely valued by my team no matter how small I thought they were.
Being in technology, I was given the task to improve a system on my own. This was challenging as I had to revamp the entire system by myself and I felt my manager could have at least partnered me with another team member to work on the project together.
I felt that on a daily basis I had a lot of things to do therefore prioritising my work was critical to ensure the success of my internship.
I was given a huge responsibility however I felt I was not experienced and I lacked the technical capabilities to really show my full potential.
The skills I have learnt throughout the internship from time management to social networking will assist me in my future aspirations.
The Company
The team were very approachable and friendly and I like one of them since day one.
The HR team were really organised in terms of the socials and the speaker series lined up for all the interns. There were several team building activities which encouraged all interns of different division to work together as a bank as big as Barclays Capital should.
There were definitely a lot of learning resources options for every interns however there should have been some training courses on programming languages which was planned but did not happen.

Really great culture and people where I can see my career lifting off!
The Culture
The diversity among the interns is amazing. The people were friendly and nice and I can see how the company really chooses those that can fit well into the BarCap culture.
It was decent and affordable based on the income interns were earning.
It was decent though you would have to go to central london for a proper nightlife.
There were activities lined up for current employees as well as interns such as Dragon Boat Races and Touch Rugby which let us interact with interns from other banks as well.
