The Role
The work was interesting and the social life was quite good. I was able to contribute quite a lot which made the experience more enjoyable. If you're based in Windsor or Staines you'll be living with 40 or so other interns which was good fun.
Everyone that I met was very nice and welcoming. My team showed appreciation for when I did good work including a leaving card and lunch at the end of the placement.
My manager assisted me with improving my technical knowledge as well as by helping me to focus on professional development. I felt very comfortable going into the final presentation due to the assistance I was given.
I had long running projects as well as things that would pop up throughout the day which gave a nice balance. I never felt overworked and there were only a couple of occasions where I would have liked to have more to do.
I was given lots of responsibility including producing important documents that would be read by senior members of staff and informing expensive decisions.
I've gained a lot of technical knowledge about the industry as well as improving my commercial awareness of how business takes place. These skills will help both in my degree as well as in my future career.
The Company
The environment was very professional and focussed on work however people were willing to have a laugh at appropriate times.
There was confusion due to some deadlines and requirements being changed last minute. I wasn't able to access all the systems and folders that I needed to straight away, instead I had to contact IS and gain access to each one which was a bit of a hindrance.
We received presentation training as well as excel training, both of which are very useful in the workplace.
Subsidised Canteen
The company is going through change and getting involved with exciting projects.
The Culture
I was placed in university halls at royal holloway with 40 other interns. We were able to socialise with each other very easily due to the proximity which was good fun and added a lot to the placement.
London prices.
Egham doesn't have any clubs so the nearest places to go are Windsor and Kingston. Windsor is pretty dreadful but others seemed to enjoy it. Kingston was probably the better option although still not great. You could go out in London however we never did this due to high cost of return transport.
Lots of my fellow interns played football after work. We also took part in a charity challenge with other interns that involved performing activities outside of work.
