The Role
Superior to a number of manual jobs I have had previously, but not an as enjoyable as previous internships.
Everyone was very insular and kept to their own business.
The management were very supportive and made time for me.
Very varied I found, occasional busy periods followed by a lull.
Quite a bit of support which I found much better than being given a keeping busy project.
I learnt a bit more about team work and few technical skills relevant to my degree, but nothing too significant.
The Company
Not many young people were I was placed and no one went out together even for lunch.
The only failure within the internship set up I could see was the background check company which BarCap get to do it for them, these people were exceedingly poor at my job and bothered my references not just once, but four times over the months leading to my internship, each time claiming to have never called before. This is not directly BarCaps fault though, so otherwise excellantly organised.
We got some finance training which was interesting, but I did not receive any relevant to my role, though I imagine for those there for a longer period of time one would.
Subsidised Canteen
Well paid and the graduate scheme seems organised and with perks such as training and rotations within the company before you settle upon a role.
The Culture
The other interns were a good bunch.
It was in London so very expensive and as one would expect socialising was very expensive, but you did get some great nights out for the high prices paid.
London has a very good night life (though the tubes did dampen it since many people go home for the last tube at midnight! ).
There was the opportunity to get involved with numerous social clubs throughout the company such as football, rugby, running, choir and more.
