About You
I really enjoyed the placement as I gave me the opportunity to understand how actuarial theory impacts business practices.
I felt very valued - my colleagues always made an effort to ensure I enjoyed a wide range of opportunities. They were also very approachable and I felt I could ask a colleague for guidance if I did not fully understand what a task involved.
The support network was extremely organised. My counselor and buddy ensured that my placement was fulfilling my expectations through regular formal and informal discussions and the student recruitment team were very proactive in ensuring that I had integrated well within the firm.
I believe that the skills which I have developed over my placement will provide me with a strong foundation for my degree studies.
The Company
The placement was well structured, however, there still remained flexibility for me to become involved in different projects which reflected my skills and personal interests.
The atmosphere within the office was certainly one of focus and concentration, however, there also existed a relaxing and welcoming element which was very evident.
I believe that elements of personal training and development were prevalent throughout the placement, in addition to a strong initial focus being placed on IT training and short online courses.
I think this was quite hard to judge as I was working with a variety of different colleagues on different projects, as opposed to shadowing one colleague and observing his/her 'typical' day.
EY's culture became increasingly more prevalent throughout the placement, which reflects its aims contained within its Vision 2020 strategy.
I believe that the content of the placement was designed to give me a wide variety of experiences which was immensely helpful in helping me decide my future career path.
Everything Else
I was paid a very fair wage for the placement, in addition to being reimbursed for travel expenses to the induction day.
My buddy and counselor made a conscious effort to ensure that I felt integrated within the actuarial team, in addition to regular social activities which enabled me to enhance my business network.
The social event opportunities were very enjoyable and beneficial in terms of widening my business network.
I became aware of the many groups and committies that exist within the firm, in addition to the partner charity with which many colleagues become involved.
I would definitely recommend this placement to a friend as it is an invaluable experience and something which will help you to stand out among other graduated.
