The Role
I have worked many work experience placements now, but this placement gave me real responsibility, i made some good friends and I was exposed to the oil and gas industry which enabled me to gain some good skills.
My collegues organised for me to go offshore and trusted me to meet with suppliers. I knew that my work made a difference to the team and my line manager was very supportive.
My line manager had daily conversations with me, set me clear objectives and checked i was alright. He was suuportive of my work and offered me encouragement.
I was really busy on a daily basis. My line manager always ensured i had something to do so that i did not sit there bored, it helped me to be motivated. I also attended lots of trips and the copany set us lots of projects with the other interns to keep us entertained.
I was given a lot of reponsibility, i was trusted to meet with suppliers and make the end decisions on components and systems and put them into service on the platforms.
I have gained offshore qualifications, confidence with working with a range of teams and suppliers. I have also gained a lot of technical information on mechanical components and systems such as valves and design processes which will help me with my degree studies and beyond.
The Company
Everybody got along with each other and was interested in each others work and lifestyle outside of work.
I always knew what was expected of me and where i needed to be. I also was given repsonsibility to manage my own time which allowed me to be flexible. HR had organised everything for us to be settled happily beforehand and we had met our line managers over the phone before we had turned up to work which helped to settle nerves.
I gained my offshore qualification and learnt more about the industry by being sent to events such as offshore Europe and trips to suppliers. The company sent me offshore and gave me many perks such as flexi friday which meant that i learnt lots of new skills and had time to relax.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I have been put through to their assessment centre and hope to get a job with them in the future.
The Culture
I lived with all the other interns and we went out and did lots of activities together. The company puts on lots of social events such as team meals, dinner dances, music events and conferences.
I lived in Aberdeen so it was very expensive to live in but i earnt enough to cover my costs.
Aberdeen has a good nightlife, lots of clubs and bars and open till quite late.
Yes BP puts on many events and sponsors many events so events such as football, music and meals we always avaliable. BP also gave us flexi friday so every other weekend we got to go on long weekends and we went to Edinburgh Fringe and Inverness and other places for long weekends.
