The Role
I really did enjoy my placement and National Grid is a great place to work. The development provided is incredible and they ensure you get the best out of your time with them.
I felt like I built good rapports with my colleagues as they were all welcoming and gave you space to adapt and be familiar with the team and working style. They are very open to questions and more than happy to give you a hand.
I was given immense support by management and supervisors. Support came from all over and they were able to create room in order for me to freely speak about things that were troubling me.
I think there was a god balance. Typically at the start, it was slow as you are getting familiar to the work and your objectives but after a while, it picks up and you find yourself doing all sorts. It never got busy to the point I found myself stressed, there was always a perfect balance.
Some projects were mine to run so the resoinsiblity was a lot but it was very manageable and I knew where to go if I needed help. I throughly enjoyed the projects I was in charge and there was scope for me to make it my own, Even after the project was compelted and after the handover, seeing your project continue as a established service in the business is very rewarding.
I feel that I am well equipped to go back to university and my the working world. National Grid really does care about your development. There are a lot of speaker events and courses that are available to you to take and enhance your skills. Sometimes you develop just by the work you are given just because you face different challenges that you will learn from. The best thing about National Grid is that your objectives are aligned with what you want to develop in yourself which leaves you being more focused to make sure you develop that skill.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is very relaxed and people are very friendly which helps you adapt quickly to the environment.
I felt it was very organised as we were provided with booklets to help us align our development. with the Monthly reviews as well as Buddy sessions. National Grid is good as getting you to present your progress and making you take ownership for your own learning, At the start of the placement, I felt in the know and how things will be, I knew my manager before I started as well as my buddy so I didn't come in blind sighted.
They invested in it by providing courses we can take as well as training early on which was very helpful in getting prepared as to what I am going to be faced with for the year.

It is very appealing. The Grad scheme is very sought after as the company puts their all in their Grads. It provides opportunities beyond belief and allows you to explore different areas of the business.
The Culture
Yes! there was. There were social outings as well as site visits. The network made with the placement students is very helpful and everyone encourages each other as well as knowledge share
The cost of living is affordable. Support as to what agency to go to is provided and as some people lives around the area, they are more than happy to provide advice to where the best places to go is. Socialising is easy as there are pubs, bars and restaurant in town which is easily accessible
I didn't really go to any nightlife but from what I heard, it was pretty enjoyable as there were a couple of things to do in Leamington Spa
There are a lot of things to do outside work such as sports club, market stands and fun fairs.
