About You
The Vacation Scheme provided a great insight into Linklaters as a firm. We had fun socials organised and I was able to interact with a variety of individuals from fellow vacation schemers to trainees, associates and partners. The variety of talks timetabled were interesting and improved my knowledge of different practice areas and the legal industry as a whole.
I completed work and tasks for a variety of employees and I was thanked each time and made to feel that the work I had completed was valuable. Employees of all levels took an interest in me beyond which university I studied at, which was a positive reflection of Linklaters' culture.
I was provided with a trainee buddy in each department in which I sat. My buddy's were always there to answer any questions that I had and to provide support. Equally, my supervisors were fantastic. They would go the extra mile to ensure I understood their practice area and to answer any questions that I had.
The skills that I developed will definitely assist me in my further career. I have learnt how to present myself and form relations in an office environment whilst gaining an idea as to the practice areas I wish to sit in during my training contract. The information that I have received has also increased my knowledge of business in general and the legal industry.
The Company
The Vacation Scheme was well structured. We were provided with a timetable of the events at the beginning of the scheme so we were able to plan around presentations and socials accordingly. I received an appraisal at the end of each of my two seats which was very beneficial for my development throughout the scheme.
As a cohort all the students on my Vacation Scheme got on really well. This ensured that the scheme had a great atmosphere and was really fun. We had trainee solicitors join our socials who were all very friendly and happy to provide any information about Linklaters. I also liked the atmosphere in the departments in which I sat.
I was very impressed by the quality of presentations and sessions provided for us during the Vacation Scheme. These ranged in topics from a session on our own personal branding to a presentation on how a deal works and also practice area overviews of the firm's key departments. Some departments also provided specific training sessions for their Vacation Scheme students.
The Vacation Scheme provided a brilliant insight into the life of a trainee at Linklaters. I was able to witness and help with work that trainees had been set, experience the firm's culture and opportunities at the firm. I met with individuals of all levels from Linklaters, providing an insight into career progression.
The Vacation Scheme provided a great insight into Linklaters' culture as I was essentially immersed within it for four weeks. I was able to see how individuals of different levels interact with one another and how the culture differed between departments, for example in my second seat the department would hold a quiz every Friday that was prepared by a trainee, which I really liked.
Although I was already set on Law, the content of the Vacation Scheme was paramount in deciding which firm I wished to pursue a career as a trainee solicitor in. I cannot express how helpful Vacation Schemes are when deciding the firm at which you want to train as you gain a true insight into the firm, including its training, opportunities and culture
Everything Else
I was paid £400 a week.
There were plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees. As well as arranged sessions for networking I also emailed employees at the firm asking to meet. Everyone was very willing to talk to me about their experience at Linklaters.
The social events were very fun! During the Vacation Scheme we went to an escape room, on the London Eye and Thames Rib. The social events provide a great opportunity to develop friendships with your fellow Vacation Scheme students. Trainee solicitors also attended the social events which allowed us to find out more about their experience at Linklaters.
Yes, I found that the best way to do this was to ask trainees and employees. Everyone was very happy to share their experiences with me.
I would definitely recommend the Vacation Scheme at Linklaters. It provided a great insight into the legal industry as a whole as well as the firm itself. It was an enjoyable experience in which I developed as a person.
